Do You Know Where Your Water Valves Are Do you know where the water valves in your home are? The location of the water valves in your home is something that you and all the other members of your household should be aware of. The reason for this is that in case you get a leaking faucet or a burst pipe, you would be able to shut your water off quickly. Now, why should you even bother to shut your water off? For one, leaks can cause flooding and damage to your property. The moisture can seep through the structure of your house and cause mould to grow and eventually compromise the integrity of your home. Leaks can also cause accidents. Also, a lot of water would be wasted; surely you do not want to spend more than what you should on your water bill. Finding where the water valves in your home can be quite an adventure. If you have a hot water tank, there is bound to be a valve there. Do you use appliances like washing machines, dishwashers and water heaters? You most likely have water valves located on the pipes supplying the water to these appliances. The same goes if you have more than one bathroom in your home – each bathroom is bound to have its own valve. But the most important valve of them all is the main valve. Everyone in your household should know where this is located in case you know there is a leak somewhere in your home but could not find where it is. Have your main valve and the other valves in your home oiled at least twice a year. To help you remember where the water valves in your home are, you can prepare a map of your home detailing where these valves are. Put this map up in a place where everyone will be able to see it, such as your kitchen. It is important for you to know where your water valves are. Knowing this vital information can save your day. |
